The Washington County Chamber of Commerce was honored to celebrate WCPS educators and their dedication to the students of our community on April 17, 2024. Congratulations to all of the nominees, finalists, and to our 2024-2025 Washington County Teacher of the Year, Brittany Collins!

Brittany is a 6th/8th Grade English Language Learners Teacher at Springfield Middle School. Brittany has been impacting students as a teacher for 13 years, including eight with WCPS. In addition to supporting her fellow teachers as a curriculum and professional development leader, she works to build connections with her students and their families by planning parent nights and volunteering at PTA/PTO events. She says, “My message to teachers and students is to accept all for who they are and to remember that everyone has the potential to learn something new. As an English as a Second Language teacher, I’m more than my students’ teacher. I am their nurse, counselor, secretary, librarian, school mom, and friend.”

Thanks to our generous sponsors, all six finalists received a check to help enhance their classrooms, plus the winner received an extra $5,000, plus Chick-fil-A for a year, and a new car for a year from Hagerstown Honda/KIA, to be traded in for a new car every few thousand miles!

As Washington County Teacher of the Year, Brittany will go on to be considered for the Maryland Teacher of the Year title.
