WASHINGTON COUNTY ARTS COUNCIL SEEKS EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR TO LEAD HISTORIC ARTS ORGANIZATION

Hagerstown, MD – November 24, 2025 – The Washington County Arts Council (WCAC) announces a national search for an Executive Director to lead the organization into its next chapter of growth and community impact.

Applications are being accepted through December 12, 2025.

Since 1967, WCAC has served as Washington County's designated County Arts Agency, enriching the community through gallery exhibitions, arts education, retail operations featuring 150+ regional artists, and grant programs supporting local arts initiatives. The organization operates with a $400,000 annual budget and hosts 8-10 exhibitions annually, with programs reaching thousands of residents and visitors each year.

"This is an exciting opportunity for a visionary leader to shape the cultural landscape of Washington County while implementing our Strategic Plan 2025-2027," said Kathyrn Gratton, Interim Executive Director of WCAC and Search Committee Chair. "We're seeking someone who shares our passion for supporting regional artists and advancing arts education throughout our community."

The Executive Director will serve as CEO of the organization, providing strategic vision and operational excellence while managing fundraising, community partnerships, and exhibition programming. Key responsibilities include grant writing and development, donor cultivation, board liaison work, and serving as the primary spokesperson for arts and culture in Washington County.

Ideal candidates will have a bachelor's degree and 5+ years of nonprofit leadership experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience. The position requires demonstrated success in fundraising and grant writing, along with strong financial management skills. The position offers a salary of $50,000-$55,000 annually, 12-20 days of paid time off plus 11 paid holidays, and the opportunity to lead an organization that transforms lives through the arts.

WCAC is located at 34 South Potomac Street in downtown Hagerstown's Arts & Entertainment District. The organization maintains gallery hours Wednesday through Saturday and observes a Tuesday-Saturday work schedule for staff.
