Meritus Family Medicine Residency Program director named to board of national organization

Dr. Stacy Ross to serve on the Board of Directors of the Association of Family Medicine Residency Directors.

HAGERSTOWN, Md. — Stacy Ross, M.D., director of the Meritus Family Medicine Residency Program, was recently named to the board of the Association of Family Medicine Residency Directors (AFMRD).

Dr. Ross is one of five physicians elected to the board and one of two member-at-large directors for the more than 30-year-old organization whose aim is to support family medicine residency directors and related personnel.

“It is an honor to be elected to serve on the AFMRD Board of Directors to support residency leaders nationally and to represent Meritus in this role,” Dr. Ross said.

Brad Miller, D.O., associate dean for graduate medical education at the Meritus School of Osteopathic Medicine (MSOM), congratulated Dr. Ross on her election.

“AFMRD is the preeminent national organization representing family medicine residency leadership,” he said. “It plays a critical role in advancing excellence in graduate medical education through leadership development, faculty and program support, innovation, and advocacy for family medicine training programs across the country. Serving on the AFMRD Board reflects national recognition of Dr. Ross’s leadership, expertise, and commitment to the future of family medicine education.”

A residency program is a structured apprenticeship leading to board certification in a particular specialty. A resident is a physician who is enrolled in this apprenticeship or residency and is overseen by board-certified faculty physicians.

Meritus’ three-year program has 18 residents, or six in each year. There are plans to increase that number as the first students graduate from the MSOM in 2029.
