Meritus’ Dave Lehr named to Maryland Health Benefit Exchange board
HAGERSTOWN, Md. — Meritus Health Chief Strategy Officer Dave Lehr has been named to the board of the Maryland Health Benefit Exchange, effective June 1, strengthening the agency’s governance with a seasoned healthcare, technology and public‑service leader.
The Maryland Health Benefit Exchange (MHBE) operates the state’s official health insurance marketplace. Through its programs, the exchange connects thousands of Marylanders to health coverage each year, significantly reducing the state’s uninsured rate. The marketplace also enables eligible residents to access federal and state financial assistance, helping make comprehensive health insurance affordable for individuals and families across income levels.
Lehr was appointed by the governor and confirmed by the Maryland Senate. Board members of the quasi‑governmental organization are responsible for providing governance, oversight and strategic guidance to advance the exchange’s mission.
“I’m honored to serve on the Maryland Health Benefit Exchange board and contribute to work that has such a meaningful impact on access to care,” Lehr said. “Affordable, comprehensive health coverage is foundational to healthier communities, and I look forward to supporting the exchange as it continues to expand coverage and reduce barriers for Marylanders.”
At Meritus Health, Lehr serves as chief strategy officer for the health system and chief operating officer for the Meritus School of Osteopathic Medicine (MSOM). His responsibilities include population health, strategic planning, technology, business development and communications, with an emphasis on improving community health outcomes throughout Western Maryland and the surrounding region.
This isn’t Lehr’s first time on a statewide health board. He served on the Maryland Community Health Resources Commission, appointed by then-Gov. Larry Hogan.
