HAGERSTOWN, Md. — Meritus Health has promoted Carrie Adams, Pharm.D., from chief operating officer to president of Meritus Medical Center, recognizing her record of operational excellence, quality improvement and transformational leadership.
Adams has served as COO of Meritus Medical Center since 2022, providing strategic oversight of clinical operations, quality, performance improvement and support services at the system’s flagship hospital. During her tenure, the medical center achieved measurable gains in patient safety, experience and efficiency, including significant reductions in overhead expenses and improved quality outcomes, while earning seven consecutive “A” grades from The Leapfrog Group – only achieved by 5% of the hospitals in the U.S.
Meritus Medical Center is a 327-bed, level III Trauma Center with over 70,000 emergency room visits, 2,100 deliveries and 20,000 surgical cases annually. Meritus Medical Center is the main teaching hospital for Meritus Health, a community-based academic health system serving more than 200,000 people.
“Dr. Adams is a consummate leader, dedicated to patients and staff, and always focused on quality,” said Maulik Joshi, Dr.P.H., president and CEO of Meritus Health.
“I am honored to serve as president and to continue working alongside our physicians, caregivers and staff,” Adams said. “Together, we will keep advancing safe, high-quality care for our community while building on the strong foundation already in place.”
Adams holds a Doctor of Pharmacy degree from Shenandoah University and a bachelor’s degree from Ohio Northern University.
