Dementia Friend Education Session

Friday, December 13, 2024 (12:00 PM - 1:00 PM) (EST)

Description

What is a Dementia Friend Education Session?
Dementia Friend Education Sessions are designed to raise awareness of dementia in their communities.
The sessions include the five key messages and activities to increase people’s understanding of dementia.
At the end of the session, the Champion suggests dementia-friendly actions (such as being
more patient or visiting someone they know living with dementia) and asks each person to commit to a personal action. This is not only informative but can be brought to provide every business in Washington County the opportunity to become a certified Dementia Friendly Business as part of the Dementia Friendly Washington County Initiative.

Why attend?
Dementia has physical, psychological, social and economic impacts, not only for people living with dementia, but also for their carers, families and society at large. There is often a lack of awareness and understanding of dementia, resulting in stigmatization and barriers to diagnosis and care. By taking time to become a Dementia Friend you are helping to raise Dementia awareness, and promote a Dementia Friendly Washington County.
