About the Artist, Lisa Scheirer:
The forests and watersheds close to my home are my spark.
Artwork begins with walking in and observing the landscape, then recording the experience with photos which I use in my social media posts. Ink paintings and paper collages are of my remembered experience of being in nature. I build up layers of transparent colors that mimic the textures seen in the wild. Sometimes I paint wet on wet, and other times, allow ink layers to dry before applying the next layer of ink. Collages are a more opaque version of these scenes.
I research the landscape used in my work. Knowing the story of the forest and how all its beings behave together - sharing nutrients, information, and life is helpful to my message. I often bring plant matter home to look at it through my digital microscope to see these beings on a different scale. Scale is a factor in my work - the point of view could be perceived as either very close or very far away, micro or macro.
Although there is a scientific side of my exploration, I'm pushing beyond the scene to explore the energy and spirit of forest beings. My mission is to help communicate that forests are work saving and that they are a part of us.
