Description

On Thursday, June 19th at 10:00 AM, Washington County Government invites the public to attend a Juneteenth Ceremony at the Halfway African American Cemetery, located at 11027 Clinton Avenue in Hagerstown.

This special event will include the dedication of a new park bench in honor of the African American individuals laid to rest at the cemetery. The bench also serves as a tribute to the valor and service of 14 African American Civil War veterans and one World War I veteran buried on the grounds.

The Halfway African American Cemetery holds deep historical significance, having been operated from 1897 to 1932 by the Independent Order of the Good Samaritans and Daughters of Samaria. It remains a powerful reminder of the strength, resilience, and contributions of the African American community in Washington County.
