Description
The Potomac Playmakers proudly announce the first show of its historic 100th Anniversary Season! “Come From Away,” Music, book, and lyrics by Irene Sankoff and David Hein – Based on the true story of the time the isolated community of Gander, Newfoundland played host to the world, “Come From Away” tells the compelling story of how for five days in 2001 the small town played host to over 7,000 displaced airline passengers in the wake of the 9/11 terrorist attacks. What develops over that time is the fostering of unexpected friendships, compassion, and resilience amidst global fear. Cathy James directs with Susan Kleit, & music direction by Janet Palmer. Performances run September 11-13, 2026 and September 18-20, 2026 in commemoration of the 25th Anniversary of the September 11 attacks. Produced with licensing by Music Theatre, International. This show is rated PG-13 for occasional vulgar language. The Potomac Playmakers, founded in 1926, is one of the nation's longest running active community theatre groups. The Potomac Playmakers Performing Arts Center, purchased in 2017 with generous funding from the Agnita Stine Schrieber Fund, features deluxe cinema quality seating for a comfortable seating experience.
