Community Impact & Urgent Needs Grants Benefit Local Organizations


HAGERSTOWN, MD (July 13, 2022) — The United Way of Washington County, MD recently awarded $332,970 in Community Impact Grant funds to fourteen established county programs focusing on health, education, financial stability, and basic needs for the fiscal year beginning July 1st, 2022. An additional $36,000 of funds will be allocated throughout the fiscal year to local nonprofit partners experiencing unexpected urgent needs related to food insecurity and expenses associated with programming and operations.


Community Impact Programs Awarded for FY23: 


Health

Community Based Mentoring Program: $25,830.00

The Medical Advocacy Program: $33,700.00

 

Education

Common Cents Community Building Initiative: $10,969.00

Out of School Time Program: $85,875.00

The STEAM Works Imagine Learning Program Expansion: $7,756.00

The Super Readers Program: $5,729.00

 

Financial Stability

Financial Education Partnership of Washington County: $26,171.00

 

Basic Needs

The Business of Living Program: $12,777.00

The Community Redistribution Program: $23,105.00

The Crisis Program: $17,898.00

The Hope Food Boxes Program: $924.00

Meals on Wheels Program: $34,956.00

Micah’s Backpack Program: $11,084.00

The Shelter Collaboration: $36,196.00


In addition to Community Impact Grants, $24,000 will be awarded to local nonprofit organizations through the Live United Urgent Needs Grant. This grant is available on a rolling basis and applications are reviewed and approved monthly. It focuses on meeting the needs of community partners experiencing acute budgetary constraints due to unexpected programming or operational roadblocks. Another $12,000 will also be awarded to nonprofit organizations assisting Washington County residents who experience unanticipated food insecurity. These funds will also be available via grant application on a rolling basis and will be reviewed and approved monthly.
