HUMANE SOCIETY OF WASHINGTON COUNTY OFFERS “NAME YOUR OWN ADOPTION FEE” TO PROMOTE DOG ADOPTIONS
HAGERSTOWN – To promote dog adoptions as the shelter nears canine capacity, the Humane Society of Washington County (HSWC) is offering a “Name Your Own Adoption Fee” promotion for dogs six months and older through March 18.
Adoption fees of any amount are accepted, as determined by the adopter.
“Oftentimes the adoption fee acts as a barrier for people hoping to adopt an animal, but this doesn’t mean that they are not willing or able to financially care for that pet,” said Noel Cordell, Director of Development and Communications. “In fact, research shows no correlation between the love and commitment people feel toward their pets and the amount of money they pay to obtain them. By offering the opportunity to ‘name your own adoption fee’ through March 18, we hope to connect more dogs at HSWC with loving families and free up space for more incoming animals in need.”
Available animals are spayed or neutered, microchipped, vaccinated and up-to-date on worm and flea preventatives prior to being placed up for adoption. HSWC also provides adopters with a complimentary health visit at a participating veterinarian, as well as an option for 30 days of free health insurance for their new family member. These services are valued at more than $450.
The standard adoption counseling process remains the same throughout this promotion. Interested adopters must meet an animal prior to filling out an Adoption Application and are required to present a valid driver’s license or state-issued ID. Dog license fees must be paid at the time of adoption. HSWC’s onsite retail store has collars, leashes, bowls, toys and more for adopters to purchase before heading home with their furry friend.
Interested adopters are encouraged to visit the shelter’s website for more information on available dogs. Visit https://www.hswcmd.org/adoption-gallery and click on an animal’s photo to learn about personality and his or her ideal home.
HSWC welcomes all interested adopters to visit the shelter during normal business hours (Monday – Tuesday: 10am – 6pm, Wednesday: 1pm – 6pm, Thursday – Saturday: 10am – 6 pm). The adoption floors close daily from 12pm – 1pm for Nap Time.
Individuals do not need to reside in Washington County to adopt from HSWC.
The Humane Society of Washington County exists to promote the welfare of companion and domestic animals through educational programs and initiatives that reduce pet overpopulation, endorse fostering, enrich adoptions, and encourage responsible pet guardianship.
