Barbara Ingram School for the Arts presents THE SPONGEBOB MUSICAL

HAGERSTOWN, MD - The highly anticipated Barbara Ingram School for the Arts (BISFA) all-school Spring musical returns to the Maryland Theatre stage this April with a one-of-a-kind musical event, THE SPONGEBOB MUSICAL.

A musical theatre production for all ages, THE SPONGEBOB MUSICAL is incredibly fun and

family-friendly with a timeless story of identity, crisis, and community. David Ryan, Lead Theatre Teacher at Barbara Ingram states, “Spongebob The Musical goes far beyond the content of the cartoon we are all familiar with. It touches on the importance of community and the acceptance of others that may appear different from us. It uses a catchy musical score to teach and remind us to see the potential in others and accept all for who they are.”

The annual all-school musical invites students from all eight (8) disciplines to be part of the production to highlight the inherent gifts and talents within the entire school body. Whether on stage or in the orchestra pit, behind the scenes running lights and sound, creating props, building scenery, or producing promotional imagery and video, the entire school is encouraged to participate.

THE SPONGEBOB MUSICAL explodes with energy and features an original pop and rock-infused score by a legendary roster of Grammy® Award-winning songwriters.

Synopsis:

The stakes are higher than ever in this dynamic stage musical, as SpongeBob and all of Bikini Bottom face the total annihilation of their undersea world. Chaos erupts. Lives hang in the balance. And just when all hope seems lost, a most unexpected hero rises up and takes center stage. The power of optimism really can save the world!

Though SpongeBob SquarePants is incredibly fun and family-friendly, its timeless story of identity, crisis, and community is also a witty allegory that examines and critiques the politics of the modern era, and it does so in such a way where children will appreciate and understand the plot line, while adults can read between the lines and extract even more from the musical’s message. SpongeBob SquarePants features an eclectic score of music, each song having been written by a different musical artist with the purposes of recreating the type of musical hodgepodge exhibited by the original television series.

THE SPONGEBOB MUSICAL explodes with energy and features an original pop and rock-infused score by a legendary roster of Grammy® Award-winning songwriters. Led

and conceived by visionary director Tina Landau (2018 Tony Award nominee) and a Tony Award®-winning design team, the production brings the spirit of SpongeBob to life with humanity, heart, and pure theatricality.
